The year of purpose, the year value is added to life, the year the fashion industry changes. Poverty and pollution are the reality behind our clothes. We are new, we are fair, we are safe for everyone, created for positive change, designed with nature in mind. View our AW18 campaign here.

The True Cost film is one that everyone should watch, it highlights the key issues in the industry and whilst some viewers may find it upsetting – we think that it is still important for consumers to know the stories behind their clothes. See the trailer in this link.

At Fanfare will use business to inspire solutions, create awareness and provide a greater meaning and contribution to society. For too long businesses have built supply chains to drive financial profits at the expense of people and the environment. Systematic exploitation remains rife, basic H&S measures do not exist, millions of workers live in poverty and with excessive hours, unpaid overtime, poor health, exhaustion, sexual harassment and slavery, practices need to change.

Fast fashion is leading to global exploitation contributing to the 36 million people living in modern slavery with migrant workers and the most venerable being forced into labour. The short product life cycles and use of non-recyclable textiles leads to the clothing industry being the second largest polluter in the world.

Children are working instead of going to school, workers cannot provide for their families, 300,000 cotton farmers commit suicide each year, 215 million children are working throughout the world in unsafe, dirty and unfair working conditions.

Not to mention the environment - 1.7 billion tons of carbon dioxide is emitted annually, and 2.1 billion tons of waste is produced each year. Doing business as usual will not be an option any more. Only 20% of textiles are recycled, 2 million tons of clothing and textiles are thrown away each year in the UK and 80% of textile waste goes to landfills that could have been reused.

But clothing is our identity, an expression, a choice. It tells our story, our character, who we are. Is there an alternative?

Speaking up for those who cannot speak for themselves. Fanfare were born out of an obsession to stand up for those who live of the other side of justice, if we don’t rise up where will deliverance come from?
